Widget appearance
The Appearance section of the Widget Editor controls the basic look of your chat widget on every plan.
Primary colour
The primary colour is the cyan accent that drives:
- The chat launcher button background
- The “Send” button
- The user message bubble background
- Active state on links inside the widget
Pick any hex colour. Sam picks readable text colour automatically against your chosen background.
Tip: use your brand’s primary call-to-action colour for the best fit. The default is Sam cyan (
#0EA5E9).
Position
Choose which corner the launcher appears in:
- Bottom right (default)
- Bottom left
The widget itself opens upward from the launcher.
Launcher
The launcher is the floating button visitors click to open the chat. By default it’s a circular button with a chat bubble icon. Visitors can click it to expand the chat window or click again to close it.
Mobile behaviour
On screens narrower than 480px, the chat window opens full-screen instead of as a floating panel. This is automatic — no setting required.
What you can’t change here
For deeper visual control — header, message backgrounds, text colours, custom CSS, hiding the “Powered by Sam” footer — see the Branding page. Branding is a Pro plan feature.
Inheritance from tenant defaults
When you create a new widget, it inherits the primary colour set in Settings → Appearance. Override per widget here if you want a different look on different sites.
